Hello Monday!

As I type, I am icing my legs with bags of frozen vegetables 0_0.  I ran 5.96 miles in 56

minutes!  That’s my long run for the week.  Tuesday,  Thursday, and Friday I will run 4 to 5 miles, and on Wednesday and Saturday Dr. B and I will bike.  I love that feeling of accomplishment, when I finish a run.

I honestly didn’t think I even had it in me to get out there today, I was just not feeling it.  But, then something clicked!  I think it was the idea of starting a new week off on a positive note.  Also I was still feeling good about completing the first part of my research paper for class, in addition to getting a 60 out of 60 points on the previous paper that I turned in!  So, I’m feeling pretty darn good about myself right now 🙂

What’s even more awesome is how emotionally and physically great I feel.  I blogged about trying out the supplement Estroven for Menopause, and I darn near want to run out and buy stock in this company.  This stuff works, I mean it really works.  I had about 10% of the moodiness that I normally experience when I have PMS.  Really only freaking 10%, meaning I only had one minor emotional issue, and practically NO water weight gain 🙂  *Yes*

I can feel it, this is going to be a great week….maybe we will even sell the house!  How is Monday treating you so far?

Still Looking For Relief

In a last-ditch effort to control the raving beast in me called PMS I started taking Estroven.  Yes, Estroven the all natural menopause supplement.  Yes, I know I don’t have menopause, yet.   But several PMS symptoms(moodiness, weight gain, forgetfulness) are the same as the symptoms menopausal women have, so I decided to give it a try.  I’ve been taking it for a week not, and so far so good (my period is due tomorrow).  Actually I haven’t had my usual water retention, and my moodiness has been less severe, as Dr. B noted last night 🙂

Estroven formula includes soy isoflavones, black cohosh, calcium and boron, vitamins E, B-12, B-6, other B-vitamins, and folic acid, among other herbs.   The company that makes Estroven actually makes Estroven PMS, but I haven’t been able to find in locally.  I’m not sure if it’s been discontinued or not.  I’m guessing it has because it’s not listed on the company’s website either.  Oh, well, I stick with the menopause formula since it’s working.

At this point I will do anything not to have to take those birth control pills my doctor gave me.   Have you tried any all natural PMS remedies?  Do you have any tips or suggestions?  Help!

My Venus Week

The past few years I realize my PMS is getting worse and worse.  What I mean by worse is more water retention, more irritability, more mood swings, reduced alcohol tolerance.  When I was single my PMS wasn’t an issue.  I would basically sequester myself for a week, and no one would get hurt 🙂  Now that I’m married, I realize that my PMS affects both me and Dr. B, by putting undue strain on our marriage.  So, a couple of weeks ago I went to the local library to find a few books on alternative medicine and remedies (I’m all about all natural, and organic alternatives for anything).  I came across a book called The Venus Week written by Rebecca Booth, M.D. The Venus Week focuses on managing your hormonal changes to your best advantage.

As women, we are all aware of our menstrual cycles, and the basic premise behind them.  The Venus Week, is that one point in a woman’s monthly menstrual cycle in which her hormones are all working in her favor, making her skin glow, her hair shine, her clothes fit better, and her libido kick into high gear.  Dr. Booth, an ob/gyn, says she came up with the term, named for the Roman goddess of love, to help each patient better understand the ebb and flow of her hormones and the effects those changes have on her mind, body, and spirit.

I used my iPhone app iPeriod to help me identify my Venus Week, and this week is my Venus week *pumps fist*.  I believe it’s because of my awareness that I can feel a difference, and I’m making more effort to capitalize on it.  I’m trying to connect more (mentally and physically) with Dr. B, and I’m working out harder since I have more energy. My challenge will be “extending” my Venus Week throughout my entire menstrual cycle.
