I Will Be Channeling

17 Nov

Diana Ross!!!!!

After winning this on Ebay  yesterday!

Yes, yes, yes.  I know I live in Florida. But I’ve been lusting for a mink coat ever since when we went skiing in salt Lake City in February.

Dr. B just looked at me and said, “I hope you like it.” LOL!

Unprepared

11 Nov

This weekend we are driving to Jacksonville!  There is a Soul Food festival were going to attend on Saturday.  there are some great groups performing such as the SOS Band, George Clinton, Parliament Funakdelic and a few other old school groups.  I get to spend time with my family who lives in Jacksonville.  I would say I’m geared up and ready to go…but, I’m not.  We will be leaving in a couple of hours, and I have yet to pack. Because I looked at the weather forecast!

What? Why am I seeing 3o’s and 60’s? In Florida?   What I’m I supposed to wear now? Dang! I’m obviously not a fan of cold weather.

How’s the weather in your neck of the woods?

Stay Warm!

Florida Gator Football W Magazine Feature!

8 Nov

In the November Issue of W magazine I was surprised to see a fashion editorial that featured the Florida Gator and Florida State Seminole Football team!  How surprising that this in-state rivalry is featured in a national fashion magazine?  The Sunshine State Rivalry between Florida and Florida state comes to ahead on November 26th.  Unfortunately, the editorial never actually directly mentions either team, but each team’s colors, and school spirit shine throughout the 6-page spread.  The caption read:

Fashion and football have more in common than meets the Eye: Strategic rivalries, and of course serious body armor.  Whose colors will you be sporting?

I’ll proudly be wearing my Gator orange and blue.  Well, not exactly the blue Piazza Sempione belted wool and silk jacket and matching orange pants that’s featured in the spread, probably something a tab bit more casual.  But, orange and blue nonetheless 🙂

Personal Style Redefined

21 Oct

I was browsing in Anthropologie yesterday when I came across the book, I Love Your Personal Style: How to Define and Refine Your Personal Style by Amanda Brooks.  I purchase the book, since it hit on a topic that I’ve occasionally thought about the this year, my personal style evolution.  Every since I can remember my style has revolved around showing off my legs.  I have always believed they were and are my best asset, at 5’9′ I’m taller than your average woman.  I remember thinking long and hard about what to wear when I was going out with my sisters (I have 3 beautiful sisters) and trying to differentiate myself from them.  In my mind, my legs were the key.

Now that I’m older I continue to wear clothing that highlights my legs, which is easy when you live in Florida like I do. Back in the day 🙂 when I worked, my style of dress for the office was classic with a modern twist, now I like to mix several styles.  Here are a few highlights from the author Amanda Brooks on personal style and how to find it:

  • Personal style is a look that is all your own.
  • Embrace yourself and your history.
  • Self-confidence is good for both your soul and your style.
  • Celebrate your creativity, express your different moods, and show off all the faces of your personality.

I believe your personal style will shine through even if you change your look from day-to-day.  Now that I’m not in a structured work environment, I am having fun experiment with different looks, and shopping in a wider range of stores from vintage clothing boutiques to Bloomingdale’s.  I don’t feel any pressure to conform to any rules or trends.  Also, I don’t feel the need to dress like a “wife” ow that I’m married. In the book, there is a section on things to consider when you are working on defining and refining your personal style, one being age.  Amanda writes:

“The word ‘appropriate” gives me the chills and has nothing to do with age when it comes to style.  Women look best when they wear what they look good and what works for their budget and lifestyle.  Everybody’s style evolves over time, but if you know what works for you and what you like you will never have to worry about dressing “appropriately” for your age.”  Not that is some great advice!  Gotta go, I’m headed off to the Bahamas for the weekend…. What should I wear on the plane? :=)

Have a great weekend!

It’s The Weeekeeeeend Baby!

23 Sep

…and I’m ready for it.   I checked off several items on my To Do list.  One being creating a textile pattern with Adobe Illustrator.  Check out the Orange and Blue..a tribute to my beloved school the University of Florida!

Go Gators!

The Gators travel to Kentucky on Saturday for their first road game of the season.  I’m hoping this pattern is a good luck charm that will help them bring home a win!  We’re having a game viewing party at our new digs, this will be the first time some of our friends have seen our new place.

Tonight is date night. Huum….. we nothing specific planned.  Perhaps we have a bottle of wine at our favorite wine bar, WineStyles, then go listen to a live band by the lake.  What are you up to this weekend?  Share and share alike 🙂

Florida Vs. Tennessee

16 Sep

I’m all geared up and ready to go!  Dr. B and I are driving to Gainesville tomorrow morning for the Florida vs. Tennessee football game.  Although this is the 3rd game of the season, This will be the first real test for the Gators against a team in the SEC. This should be a great game, both teams are 2-0, although Florida is ranked 16th in the AP poll.

In addition to the game, the College of Journalism and Communications is having its annual alumni reunion tailgate before the game.  It will be great to hang out with old friends, eat some BBQ, and talk Florida football!!!

Have a great Friday,

Natasha
